Hamilton Beach Retro Iron

A really good iron at a great price!
I am very happy with this iron so far. I am a sewer and I have a couple of very expensive Rowenta irons. One of them is leaking so I was looking for a replacement for it. This Hamilton Beach is nice and heavy and produces lots of steam. It has a variable steam setting and can be used on a dry setting with no spitting or leaking! That is very important to me when I am working with silks. It heats up very quickly which is nice. It does have an auto shutoff function but it shuts off in one hour which I really like, most shut off in a few minutes and that is a pain when you're sewing. This iron is a fraction of the price of the so called professional irons I have used but I think it is much better (and it's kind of cute looking!). Hopefully it will last and withstand being used daily.

I really like this iron!!
I am really pleased with this iron. It performs like the irons that I remember using back in the day. It has a heavy feel but is easy to handle. It steams well and with a good ironing board and a little starch you can get a fantastic professional looking press. This iron is well made and a good buy for your money. I recommend this item.

A nice piece of the past; redone
This little baby is some iron! And I've had many. Classy styling, great weight, large water chamber which is easy to see, etc., etc. Being a sewist and a quilter, I have specific needs (who doesn't?) and this iron fits them nicely. First, I need to have 1200 watts--Done. I need the iron to stay on for longer than three minutes--Done. This iron stays on for one hour in the vertical position. And I need it to be ergonomic--done. I grew up using a Proctor Silex (now is the B&D Classic) and purchased the B&D iron, thinking it was the same. Not so. The handle on the B&D is too wide for my hand, as well as the sole plate is a little smaller. This iron has a very streamlined handle and the balance of it is just right. Like Goldilocks with her "porridge issues", I am very happy with the balance and design of the iron.

I also need an iron that doesn't spit when I'm forgetful enough to leave water in it--Done. yes, DONE. With all the hard water I've dumped down this baby,...
