Fellowes Quiet Air Purifier with True HEPA Filter (AP-230PH)

Impressed
Right out of the box, I was impressed with the look of this Fellows air purifier. It's fairly light, but somewhat large (about 18" H x 13" W x 8" L), and very easy to install. You simply pop off front piece, remove the wrapping from the filters, replace the front piece, plug it in, and turn it on. The tough part, as has been mentioned by others, is finding a place two feet from any walls to keep the unit (though, frankly, I ended up ignoring this suggestion after awhile with no ill effect).

The purifier has two settings, manual and auto. In manual mode, you simply adjust the fan speed to whatever setting you like: low, medium, high, or turbo. The auto setting adjusts the fan speed depending on the air quality (as indicated by a meter on the left side of the display). In my experience, the auto mode almost always leaves the fan on the lowest setting, but once in awhile, especially if I move the unit to a new room, it will detect a lower air quality and kick up the fan...

Very Efficient and Useful Air Filter
Previous reviewers have very effectively described the ease of set-up for this Air Purifier. It is, indeed, very easy to set-up. I have many dogs, many allergies, and a big, old, dusty house. This is the best air-purifier that I have ever owned. It removes pet dander, fine particles of dust ( especially plaster dust, from those old walls), and, from the appearance of the filers, practically everything else from the air. We have wood stoves in our house, which create many fine, black, soot particles. This machine removes all of those. It is easy to run, offering several speed levels.

My eyes used to burn each evening as I sat in a room with one of the stoves burning. Now, it is as if there is no wood stove in the room. My eyes stopped burning and watering, and I stopped coughing each morning ( I don't smoke, but before this filter arrived, I certainly sounded like a smoke, with my early morning"typical" smoker's cough.). This, alone, would be enough.... but, it has cut back...

Didn't really solve my problem
I bought this to clear my room of excess dust. I have always had a crappy air filter in my apartment until recently, and as a result I have a lot of dust in the air in my room which caused me to be a bit itchy and fussy at night when trying to go to bed. If I turned the lights out at night I could see specks of dust floating around in the light given off by my cell phone. I bought this and tried leaving it on "turbo" for a whole week and "auto" for another week with the doors to my room closed. I saw little to no difference in the amount of dust in the air and the dust deposited on my night stand and such. I can see that the filter had picked up some dust, however the overall consensus was that it didn't really do anything. Ended up returning it. However, it is quiet and it probably could do some good for someone who is looking to eliminate allergens.
